Vintner's Rooms (The), Edinburgh

A visit to this 17th century wine warehouse with its fine food and relaxing atmosphere is a joy. The main high-ceilinged room holds the well-stocked bar and has large tables surrounded by colorful tapestries. For a more intimate candlelit dining experience, choose a table in the non-smoking space at the farther end of the room. The wine list is as extensive and well constructed as you would expect from a restaurant of this name; there is plenty of French flair, along with many a New World contender. A very enticing, modern, French provincial menu is offered, with a strong seafood selection and a decent number of vegetarian options.
