Dr. Julian G. Bruce St. George Island State Park, Eastpoint

If you want crowds, high rises, and people laying right next to you on the beach, then St. George Island is not the beach for you. I prefer being on the beach where it is serine, tranquil, just the sound of the waves and my family. This is our families 23rd year coming to the Island and for me there is no place better.

St. George Island State Park is absolutely a must see while I'm in my old hometown of Mexico Beach..I spent summers on end in Gulf County as a teenager...I began my freedom years there with a classmate /roommate after HS Graduation in Bay County...worked 2 jobs and attended Gulf Coast Jr. College. I met my first husband and rented an apartment on the N. Canal there...and since the passing of my 2nd spouse in 1992 I spend as much time as I can there......No undertow the kids & Grandkids love it, and I've never been more at peace anyplace in the world...visit, I know you'll make memories to last a lifetime. Now that I'm retired I plan to move back...and for as long as I live I will sing the praises of that beautiful part of my world.! The seafood, quaint shops, deep bluegreen waters, the trails, the friends made , the daily walks & bike rides, always enuf sun to read each day, long sunsets to enjoy, lines of dolphin to admire & just a great way to spend the eternal hobby of sights, sounds, and even painting if you like? Get there!!! You'll never want to leave!

Poor restruarants,no shoping,not much for kids to do. Teens will be bored after two days! Be ready to drive for good food!

Grew up in Tallahassee only 40miles from the area. Went there as a kid (Only takes 2hrs to get there) one bridge in and out. Its great if you like a deserted atmosphere. Water is guaranteed to be brown and not clear and with lots of bugs and country trash down by the bars. Save your time and go to Destin, Sand Destin, Cape San Blas, or my favoriet "Seaside". They filmed the movie "The Truman show" there and it is umbelievable. Yeah there's more people at those other beach, but they're there b/c the beaches are so beautiful. (Plus more cleaner and cheapier accommodations) If you want a desert atmosphere then waste your time at SGI.

Was born in Panama City, We spent allot of time on St George Island as a child, It still has among the most beautiful beaches in the world, the State park is beautiful..Water is emerald blue and green... I am very glad it is preserved for the future... I keep going back for more....

We have vacationed on St George Island with our family and friends for many years and had a wonderful experience every time! This is a place where you can set up on the beach on day one and leave everything (cooler, chairs, umbrella, etc) for as long as you are there without worrying about having them stolen or bothered in any way! It is a beautiful, quiet place but has a nice little grocery store and several good resturants. The fishing is usually very good and the state park you just have to see--its gorgeous! We usually spend at least a couple of days at the park end of the island just picnicing and looking for sand dollars. Its a very relaxing vacation

Especially liked the fine white sand that stretches for miles, and the fact that there were VERY few people there. The seaward side of the park is all beach, and the bayward side has many lookout areas to spot an enormous variety of birds. The attendants at the check in gate were very helpful telling us (as photographers) where the best areas were. From the farthest parking area, we walked for almost 4 hours on the beach and didn't pass anyone else.

This year will be our 19th year visiting St.George Island....we love it because it's for families that just want to have some beach time or like us.... that love to fish from the dock of our rental home....no crowds...great food...and the sunsets are spectacular.....book yours today...you will love it!!!

Went to SGI on our 18th anniversary and have been going back whenever we can. The last time was on our 35th. SGI is a place to rent a house, not party in a motel room. It's a family place, or a romantic getaway. Wonderful beaches and a few nice places to eat with local color and individuality. No theatres or theme parks. We have taken 10 family members at a time and had some of the most memorable vacations of our lives.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE St. George. Of course, when I go to the beach it is to do just that...go to the beach! I can party and shop at home (metro Atlanta) and you really can't compare with Atlanta's restaurants anyways, no matter where I have been (except maybe Charleston). I wanted to keep it our little secret though so don't tell!
