Run by James and Daranee Cheung, the Thai Empire, situated opposite the central bus station, styles itself as the most authentic Thai restaurant in the city. The air-conditioned interior has a relaxed atmosphere with dark wood panelling and a separate bar/reception area. The menu boasts items such as mixed seafood with chilli and fried basil, duck in tamarind sauce and an excellent vegetarian mock chicken. There are also set menus for business lunches, pre-theatre suppers and parties and a large wine list, offering wines from around the world. Children under the age of eight are not permitted.
