Established in 1977, this is a family-run American diner offering an excellent range of mid-price food. The basic no-fuss menu includes starters such as prawn cocktail and garlic mushrooms while the main courses centre around meat, with lots of steaks, burgers, ribs and chicken. There are, however, some vegetarian options as well. Bright and breezy decor and informal service create an atmosphere that is busy and fun, and it's a good place to drop into for a quick meal, especially if you're staying in one of the hotels on Cathedral Road, just around the corner.
Great place, great staff, great food!!!
Best independant Diner in Cardiff! Family orientated and brilliant for kids. We had a great works do here, fantastic atmosphere! Service was very efficient and the food was fantastic! We had a few vegetarians in our party who though it was the best choice of food they had seen in years. You must go there!
I had been told great things about Diner 77. Well we must have gone on an off day. However the signs were that it was the norm.
It is grubby and not very american - abba music???? the menu is very large which says to me that it is not fresh.
We ordered a chilli burger and a chilli dog and a portion of onion rings at £3.50!!!!
my chilli burger was just ok, but the chilli dog was a normal jumbo pork sausage in a sliced round buger bun covered in chilli. both order plates were over half covered in iceberg lettuce and tomato and cucumber that looked like it had been cut by a blind person with an axe!!! we put sour cream in our jackets and then discovered that there was still ice inside! we told the waitress who took them into the kitchen. we then heard the microwave door open and slam and two minutes later PING and we had our hot potatos swiming in boiling sour cream back!!!
At £3.50 for the onion rings you expect something good....they aren't. 9 basic happy shopper onion rings with more iceberg.
with one gin and tonic and a cke it cost us £27.00 which is not good value for money. Then when we had the bill the waitress had written ' service not included' accross the top. She's not jokeing either!!!!!!!
i absaloutly love diner 77 everytime i go they deliver great service, quick and always with a smile.
Diner 77 are brilliant with children and always have something fun for them to do.
I'm going there for my birthday AGAIN they are always adding new meals to the menu, also they have a large range of vegetarian food.
Diner 77 is not that expensive but very classy, whenever u go the time and money is so worth it!
if u just feel like staying at home then u can order on the phone and pick your meal up within 10-20 minutes!
i totaly recomend diner 77 to everyone who reads this ! :]

I'm struck by the disparity if view about this place.
It is my eight-year old son's favourite restaurant -- and if you like a lively atmosphere, fairly straightforward and undemanding food, and friendly staff, this is a good place. We go often, the food is fine and the portions are large.
That said, it is probably not the place for a romantic meal a deux.
For a start the decor is not very american-a few pictures does not make an 'experience'! As for the food, do not order chicken! It lacked the taste and texture of 'real' chicken being processed. Paying £10 for this meal you'd expect actual chicken breast instead we found it inedible. Although too embarrased to actually complain, when we voiced our displeasure, no effort was made to compensate us. The large portions boasted were also disappointing, being normal sized with extra fries. Overall this was poor quality and over-priced and we would certainly not recommend it!!
I loved Diner 77, while on holiday in Cardiff from New South Wales, Australia. So, the food is a little greasy. If you want low fat sushi go to Queen Street, and if you don't find any I'm not surprised. In cold weather like the northern hemisphere offers, a nice big plate of steaming hot, fried food is just perfect. The place was buzzing with a fabulous atmosphere, not one dish in my handful of visits disappointed me and it was truly amazing value. A great family restaurant, or even just a date for two.
This place is truly awful. How on earth they can promote themselves as an American/Caribbean diner is beyond comprehension. I took my girlfriend there under the pretence that it was going to serve decent food at a reasonable price set in a lively atmosphere. I would have been better off at Macdonalds. This place is a con and should be avoided at all costs - although if you like overpriced, greasy food then head on down. I shan't
