Leave the hustle and bustle of the city centre for this small, split-level restaurant that has won recommendations in The Good Food Guide as well as two AA rosettes for its cuisine. Minimalist decor in shades of yellow for warmth and a separate bar and reception area make for a welcoming atmosphere. The menu is short is modern and changed regularly, with dishes such as tuna with horseradish, Welsh lamb with samphire, grilled goat cheese and lemon tart with raspberries.
I have eaten in a lot of different places in and around Cardiff, and in other cities in the UK, but undoubtedly this place has the WORST service I have ever encountered. The owners here obviously are making too much money because they value their customers so poorly. Horrific.
Unmistakable quality of food, service, and a wine list to be explored. Le Gallois has always been under the microscope so we thought we had better form our own opinion, and we weren't dissapointed. You won't see a better package outside London, we've spent more in TGI's and been dissapointed. We would recommend Le Gallois to anyone.
This was my first visit to Le Gallois and it will be my last! There were 11 people in my party and we ordered from the party menu. The service was absolutely appalling. We had to wait 1 hour between courses and the staff were pretentious, arrogant snobs. The food although tasty because of the over salting were smaller than a childs portion. The restaurant itself was cramped and incredibly noisy to the point that we had to shout to hear each other. I can honestly say that for the price I paid it is probably the worst restaurant I have ever been to. The icing on the cake was discovering that they had charged us for 15 people on the bill when only 11 were in my party!
My wife and I visited Cardiff for a wedding. On the way down we stayed at a Premier Lodge and "enjoyed" a meal at the attached Beefeater (57).
What a breath of fresh air was in store for us in Cardiff.
Le Gallois greeted us in french (in the middle of a Cardiff residential area) after we chose to walk there from the Hilton.
Our table was ready for us immediately, we were seated and introduced to the staff who would serve us and the leisurely unrushed feast of good food and wine began.
It was refreshing to not be rushed off our table so that a second "sitting" could be accommodated. We only had to reach for the wine or water bottle and a passing waiter would reach to assist us.
The food was exquisite and didnt promise more onthe menu than it delivred on the plate.
The bill was less than twice the Beefeater but was more than ten times the quality!
Some people are hard to please. Do we expect to live our life in the fast lane and dine at the same pace.
Not me give me the Le Gallois anytime.
Excellent food. Guaranteed a good meal. It is defintetly worth paying that bit extra. The surroundings and ambience is nice and the meal is always well paced. Good value lunch menu and superb wine list.
