Cascina Torchiera, Milan

Cascina Torchiera has had a rich history dating back to 1330 but fell into decay until 1994, when some Milanese folk took it upon themselves to transform it into a social space. It is now an event venue where the general public can come together to experience community life as it was in the past. Musicians, acrobats, jugglers, clowns, mime artists and others come together to revive a spirit, where art is not the prerogative of only the elite. Despite facing criticism from the mainstream media as being an unsafe area, Cascina Torchiera receives heartwarming support from bohemians, artists and the larger public in general.
