This hamam was used exclusively by men for almost 500 years. This all changed in 1963 with the addition of a small section for women. However, besides this little addition, not much has been altered. It was originally built in 1481 during the reign of Beyazit II and contains many pretty details, such as the intricate tile work at the entrance to the steam room in the men's section. One major feature here are the marble slabs where bathers can be massaged in semi-privacy rather than on the heated central navel stone. The admission price includes a full service, including massage.
Just recently(a week ago)have been there opting for the hamam, the bath and the oil massage service for 60 euros!Disgrace!Being treated like a piece of meat literally!A dirty place, full of middle-aged women who rub you unwillinglyand hastily, who talk endlessly which makes it difficult to relax and as for the oil massage-which is supposed to last 20 minutes-lasts only 7!!!I was put naked in a kind of a bed with dirty linen , in a corridor with people passing by(!), and me freezing. The woman had no idea what massage is,reminding me of my mother's rubbing when I have a cold!!!A definite waste of time and money!!!
