Istanbul Archaeology Museums
This museum displays over one million objects which includes sarcophagi dating back to the 4th century, a collection of artifacts introducing visitors to the origin and history of the city, one lion statue from the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, 800,000 Ottoman coins, and 70,000 books.
The atmosphere from the first moment is breath taking. Beautiful old buildings, set in a big park of cpyresses take one back in time to quiet, slow eras.
The new tile museum, or the kiosk is simply out of this world.
The main building presentation is not the best, but the artifacts in display are incredible. So many cultures and civilizations are crammed into vast halls. A third small building houses Hamurrabis tablets and Qadesh Treaty, one of the first written record of international agreement.
What an experience!

Osman HAmdi is also one of the greatest Turkish paintinter - an orientalist; his famous painting turtle trainer is at Pera Museum in Istanbul a short detour from the absolute fun street, Istiklal; Istanbul's version of Times Square, people and entertaintment-wise.

This museum was fantastic. One of the best sites in Istanbul, it has a wonderful collection of Classical Greek and Hellenistic art. It also has an impressive collectino of Near Eastern art, and while the Egyptian art is nice, it is not as impressive as other areas in the Near East. Still, the museum is a must stop tour for anyone visiting Istanbul.
