Greenhouse Kitap & Cafe
A popular trend in Istanbul of late is the combination bookstore-cafe. While many proprietors separate the book section from the cafe, Charlotte McPherson's Greenhouse Cafe sees both sections fully integrated. You can sit surrounded by all manner of books (including an excellent range of Turkish cookbooks), flip through the latest magazines or peruse the bookshelves. Weather permitting, the outdoor terrace is a pleasant place to sip coffee. There is also an underused seminar room in the basement.
The atmosphere was very relaxing. The smell of apple cake filled the air as I shopped and I could sit and read as I ate my tasty new treats!
It was a very personable place. The staff were friendly, the food was VERY good and the people watching was fun. Many friendly face past while I took my time exploring and I was not rushed out of my table.
I found books there that I had trouble finding at other places and the prices wer very reasonable. I do highly recommend this establishment as high quality books and staff. Thank you for the experience.
The staff are friendly but respect your space. Music is pleasant and book seleection is very good. Prices are very fair. Closed on Tuesday and Sunday. I am glad we made the visit to the Asian side and to this book store.
