The enigmatic Elephant/Sumo is a curious restaurant for many reasons. As the name suggests, there are actually two kinds of food served here. It is possible to combine the Japanese and Thai dishes or to choose from separate menus. Unlike some recent arrivals on the local scene, the sushi prepared here is a serious business. The chef, occassionally glimpsed with super-sharp knife in hand, cleaves and arranges the raw fish with surgical precision. The Thai menu is piquant but delicately infused with flavours. Highlights include fish steamed in banana leaves and any of the proposed curries. Sadly, the selection of wine is pitiful, with customers opting for Thai beer more often than not. A fantastic terrace is open in the garden during summer. Another outdoor option here is a wooden hut, accessible by a ladder, at the far end of the garden. Bookings are only taken for groups and the hut is not for those with vertigo or aversions to sitting on the floor. Still, an escapist culinary experience par excellence. Service is warm and jovial, though sometimes tardy.
Getting too popular -- sometimes hard to find a table. Love this restaurant! My husband and I had our first date here. The food is wonderful and the staff very friendly. Haven't had a bad meal here. Have been coming here when in Geneva on business for 5+ years.
