We decided to give the Red Ox a try as it was one of the participating restaurants in the Gourmet Passport, a discount booklet you buy for local discounts. The restaurant is located in a residential area of Geneva and seems to cater to locals. After we entered, it took a while to get seated even though we had a reservation. Once seated the wait to take our order was a little longer than what we would have liked. Once we did get served, things were efficient and while not extremely friendly, service seemed good. The decor is pretty much what you would expect for a steakhouse, dark panels and basic seating and tables.
The shining point was the food. The steak was tender and the vegetables fresh. In addition, the sauce for the steak was tangy and delicious. We had a half bottle of Swiss wine (red) which was suggested by our server. We skipped desert, but the dessert menu could have used some marketing assistance. The pictures are very generic and do not make you want to make sure dessert is not skipped.
In closing, again good food, average service and not much atmosphere. If you are looking for a dining experience, this is not the place, but if you want a good steak at a reasonable price, give it a try.
