The Irish Rover
More than an Irish pub, this huge place actually looks like a small Irish village, with its own little flea market in the main square surrounded by balconies and washing out to dry on the line. The pub is oozing with Irish charm and character and its well-to-do patrons can probably be credited with keeping a good part of the beer industry afloat. Regular free Celtic music concerts mid-week. The clientele is usually well-off.
Okay, so me and my friends where looking to go to a "sports bar" with a big tv to have a nice time and watch the motogp.
We arrive go into the bar to not be meeted by anyone, we actually had to walk around the place to find someone to seat us. After that they wanted to seat us in a far away corner, when there was absolutely nobody in the place.
We asked to watch the motogp on sit close to the big screen and they refused to put it on because there was a fotboll game coming on in 25min in some scottish league. Even though there was only us there.
We thought it was gonna be some people reserving the game so we went to the corner ordered food which was completely overpriced, 9€ for a sandwich? And staff was completely careless. After about 30min fotboll well going on, nobody watching it and still us the only people in the bar we asked again to watch the motogp on the bigscreen due to the apparent lack of viewers, and the waiter refused and told us fotboll takes precedence.... even if nobody is watching apparently.
In the end we just ate and payed as quick as possible to get out. Waiter all smiling and saying thank you when giving the bill and after of course such complete failure in service we didnt tip they became immediately pissed off and didnt even say good bye.
Complete and utter failure in hospitality, customer service and apparently sound judgement. Rude and completely ignorant staff. AVOID!
pub itself was lovely and very well organised with good bar staff , but prices were very high and food was awful , we left alot of ours as did many other customers sitting around us , good place to nip in and watch football but wouldnt eat there
The Irish rover was definely one of the best pubs we visited in Madrid, going there most nights and often heading out after!
the atmosphere was great- fun, friendly and chilled out! the staff we're always up for a laugh and really friendly!(some were very very good looking...it helps)
They didn't really play irish music but none of the irish bars there too!
even on a weekday night it was a cool place o chill and have a drink, or get something to eat!
ps- 'surprise me'-always ends p being a good cockail!!
we came from ireland to experience Paddys day abroad and what a great place to do it in. this bar was fantastic we had great fun there from the minute we arrived. the atmosphere was electric the band were excellent and the drink cheap - what more could you want!!! i would advise anyone to visit this bar on a trip to madrid!
This bar is a must see in Madrid. The staff speak both Spanish and English. The atomosphere is great. There are several rooms and covies groups could congregate in for a close atmosphere as well as a spacious main floor, a large outdoor terrace connecting the bar to a hip-hop club, and several places to get drinks. During the day they serve food and have wireless internet. This is the place to go.
