Cafe de Oriente

Description

It is much more than a cafe. In fact, this is a restaurant that is good enough to have been awarded a Michelin star for its creative and modern style of cooking. The house specials are cod prepared in a variety of ways and duck liver pate. There is a gourmet menu and an excellent wine cellar. The restaurant is built on top of the ruins of an old convent close to the Teatro Real, and tends to fill up after performances and on Sunday afternoons when the outdoor terrace is very popular.

A Spanish Lunch to Remember
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/9/08
The Euro's all-time high may make this a suboptimal time to dine at Cafe de Oriente, but it's worth a splurge. Outdoors in the plaza looked great, but we chose the wine cellar room beneath the restaurant which was very charming. Most dishes on the menu are seemingly odd mixtures which worked for all six of our choices. The service was dignified if not kind.

Cafe de Oriente
By Spirit, 4/20/07
One of the most wonderful things about this country's culture is patience. In some countries people are hurried to finish their meal and to receive their check so they may be on their way. As an American guest visiting Cafe de Oriente, it was quite a pleasure to slow our evening and to enjoy the incredible dinning atmosphere and catering that we received at this charming Cafe. The floors, tables and counters were all of fine marble with extremely soft and comfortable seating. Your eating area will have a breezy feeling of being outdoors when all the while you are safe from any change in the weather or unwanted elements. Cleanliness is always of importance and was not spared here. A memorable time was had and great hospitality was shown. The menu was packed with plenty of good drink that not only included coffee. A selection of foods that looked as fabulous as they tasted. As a warning, your taste buds will be tempted by the deserts that are served. Go to have a wonderful time and take your friends. At a place like this, your appetite, loud laughter, and good friends to share this good time is all you will need to make this an incredible and unforgettable evening in Madrid, Spain.

DON'T EAT HERE
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/4/06
I used to eat in the Oriente years ago. Excellent value and good food then but now.....? AWFUL.Ate there last week on a trip to Madrid. Fish which I'd suspect had been cooked the day before and microwaved before being given to me. Vile. I ate three forkfulls and left the rest. The Waitress didn't bother to ask if there was a problem. Nobody seemed to care that we'd had a bad experience. Place was empty at a time it should have been full. Follow the examples of the locals and AVOID THE PLACE!

Cafe de Oriente
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/8/04
The restaurant is directly across from the Royal Palace as well as close to the Teatro Real. On nice days you can sit outside and look out over the gardens to the Palace. The atmosphere was perfect and the food was great.
