A simple, yet delicious and fresh meal!

The Playa d’en Bossa area of Ibiza is filled with so many sleazy, marginal restaurants and take-out spots. Stumbling upon Insula Augusta was truly a gem. It’s tucked away off of the main street and the patio leads directly to the beach. Our waiter was a little old man, who was extremely attentive, even though part of my party did not know any Spanish. The food was absolutely divine and fresh. It was a simple meal, yes, but also one of the most satisfying that I have ever had. To start, my group shared pan con tomate, jamon con melon, queso manchego, and anchoas. We also had olives and bread with aioli to compliment our Rioja wine. The melon for the jamon was like eating nectar, it was unlike any fruit I had ever tasted. For my main, I chose the calamari a la plancha, which came with pomme frites and a side of vegetables. The calamari was so fresh and flavorful and the texture was perfectly tender and not rubbery in the slightest. For dessert, I had the freshly cut pineapple, and just like the melon, it was sweet, juicy, and refreshing. One of my friends allowed me to have a taste of his Ibizian cake, which very much resembled a heavier flan. It was at just the right threshold of sweetness and delicious nonetheless. My group went on a Monday night and when we went to return on Tuesday, to our disappointment, the restaurant was closed. If you are in the Playa d'en Bossa area and looking for a decent meal, Insula Augusta is the place for you. I am normally very stingy with my stars, but Insula Augusta really impressed me.
