Vaca Argentina (La)

Description

This is the island's oldest Argentinian restaurant. The meat is imported directly from Argentina and is grilled in traditional style, just like the gauchos used to cook it. It tastes great especially with the hot, spicy sauce called "chimichurri". It is not too expensive and the portions are generous. It has a nice atmosphere and it is located on the outskirts not far from Eivissa city.

A Meat Eaters Paradise
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/23/07
I would like to confirm all the comments of the previous reviewer about the overall mood and style of La Vaca. This was the third year we had visited the restaurant and the standard has not dropped below excellent. On this holiday we went three times, it is not cheap but very good value. It is not a place for vegetarians as most steaks are eaten rare or, at least, medium rare as they are so tender and delicious. Our favourite is the T Bone (for 2 people), which comes without bone and sliced, having been simply seared. With this dish you are furnished with a burner and hotplate on the table to ‘cook’ your steak to your liking. Much to the horror of the Head Waiter we also tried a 300gm Rib Eye as a starter on one visit and that was excellent too. We would recommend a bottle, or two, of the Marque de Riscal Reserva as an aid to digestion. If you are a red meat eater – go and enjoy.

Best steak ever!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/25/07
Despite the rather odd placing of this restaurant in a residental area at the edge of Ibiza town beside a massive roundabout - the place itself is beautiful. I think there is a dining area inside, but the leafy garden all lit with lanterns looked so inviting on the lovely warm September night we went there, we chose to sit there. We got there at 9pm, but this being Spain, there were only a few other diners there. It filled up slowly, and was fairly full by the time we left at approximately midnight. I say approximately because by that time we had drunk the better part of a bottle of very good Cava each.... However this certainly did not distract from my enjoyment of the evening as a whole nor of the food specifically. We started with garlic prawns, which came in a terracotta dish still hot from the oven, rich, buttery and garlicky - delicious. This was followed by fillet steak. The steak came with some miscellaneous accompaniments, which for the life of me I can't remember at all. Their purpose only to be a foil to the best piece of steak I have ever eaten by a very long way. If you like steak you will love this place. Herein lies the problem..... I don't remember the rest of the menu, but I think it was quite short. Argentinians (as other South Americans) are not known for their famous vegetarian dishes. Argentinians are famous for their red meat and lots of it. I have been trying to find a menu on the internet, but have not been able to find one. Perhaps I am completely wrong, perhaps they have great veggie, fish and chicken options. I really hope they do, as I hope to persuade my sisters (not vegetarian, but not fans of red meat either) to come with us when we go again this September. Did I mention the service? This was helpful, freindly, polite but unobtrusive. You could see into the kitchen from our seats in the garden. The staff seemed to be enjoying their jobs - no Gordon Ramsey shouting and swearing here! And it certainly didn’t seem to be needed, as the food was great, presented well, and the portion size was just right. We couldn’t fit in a dessert, but people with larger appetites than us would certainly not go away hungry! All in all a great place!
