¡Vivan los pinchos vascos!
Irati was recommended by a very nice, Sicilian desk clerk at the hotel in which we were staying in Barcelona. We tried to go one evening, and the place was so jam-packed at the bar we couldn't manage it.
We returned on another evening and were rewarded with the BEST food we ate in Barcelona.
The ambiance -- especially the barman -- was convivial and friendly -- somewhat unusual in Barcelona, at least in my estimation. The Catalonians are sometimes a bit stiff, but we're accustomed to the openness of the Madrileños.
The pinchos (Basque for tapas) were absolutely wonderful -- tasty, interesting, constantly fresh and well priced. It was the only time in Barcelona we felt that the food was more than worth the cost, which considering the quality, was reasonable.
Irati is worth seeking out -- excellent food, very good wine and great value.
