Cervecería Catalana

Description

This comfortable beer hall, close to La Rambla de Catalunya and decorated in dark shades and varnished wood, is noteworthy for its Montaditos (small pieces of bread with tapas on top), and their Ensaladilla (like potato salad but better), which decorate the bar behind the glass. Their assorted menu of beers - domestic and imported - is also worth a mention. The service is excellent, and the staff, cordial and efficient. They also have a terrace you can enjoy all year round.

Best Atmosphere and Tapas I've found in Barcelona
By ,
I've been to Barcelona twice now (with a third trip in Nov. 2009) and I always find time for Cerveceria Catalana at least once while there. If alone or in a couple don't be afraid to sit at the bar, all the different menu items are laid out there in front of you and it is quite a visual treat! I've tried a variety of things from the menu but if they have the fried baby squid and razor clams available, don't miss out! Can't wait to return. The only downside to this place is that if you go during primetime lunch or dinner, be prepared to wait!

They are all out of common courtesy
By ,
The problems started when i called to reserve a table for the evening. When they answered the phone, I stated politely that I would like to reserve a table for the evening for two friends of mine and myself. The given response was simply, "no we don't reserve tables, click...." I have NEVER, and i mean NEVER, experienced something like that in my entire life. At least have the courtesy to say "bye". We decided to go even though my first impression was grim. When we got there we soon found out that this was the level of courtesy they showed their customers. I speak spanish fluently, but ordered in english anyways, and discovered that the waiters spoke badly of the foreign customers behind their backs. Making fun of physical appearances as well as nationality (oftentimes described as"inferior") The positive is this: The food was good, and not overpriced. You get what you pay for both in quality and quantity, but the atmosphere is terrible. If a good atmosphere is important to you, i highly recommend you find somewhere else to spend your hard earned money. (if it's you easily earned money I'd understand)

Best Tapas in Barcelona
By ,
The atmosphere is terrific--it's like a beer library, with bottles of beer lining the wood-inlaid walls like books on a shelf--and the food is outstanding. You can't go wrong with the filet of beef or shrimp tapas, and the escalavida is outstanding. Try the asparagus and the mini hamburgers; even the leeks and the green peppers are great. Very convivial ambience, and the price is great, with most tapas selling for three euros or less and a nicely modest wine list, 7-13 euros per bottle for red, white, rose or cava. I have now eaten here three times, and each time has been outstanding.

Good Food

We had lunch here and it was very good. The owners also own a restaurant called Ciudad Condall, also has excellent food. The tapas are to die forin both places.

Most memorable experience in Barcelona
By ,
Chanced upon this place as it was near our hotel (Gallery Hotel) and saw loads of pple in the queue. We decided to follow and waited ard 30mins, finally got a seat at the bar. As it was our 1st time there, we decided to see wat the other guest ordered and followed suit. We had Mini burgers, steak on baguette, langostinos on baguette, patatas and many many more!! We instantly fell in deep love with this place and went there 3 afternoons out of the 4 days we were there!!!! My hubby n I came to the conclusion that it was the most amazing tapas ever!!!! Excellent staff and friendly ambience!!
