Ekaterinskii Dvorets (Catherine Palace)
The stunning centrepiece of the imperial residence of Tsarskoe Selo . The blue, white and gold baroque facade is over 300 meters long and unsurprisingly dominates the surrounding estate. The original incarnation was designed in 1752 by Rastrelli (of Winter Palace fame) under guidance from Elizabeth I. As photographs on display inside show, the palace was utterly destroyed by invading German forces and work still goes on to repair the damage. However, a good deal of the palace is open to the public, including the glittering Great Hall and the Amber Room, the original contents of which are still being sought in Germany.

I'm not sure why it is rated so low because it is in the top three of places you must not miss if you are in St Petersburg! The palace, the grounds and the Amber Room are all incredible. Some people travel from far away just to see the Amber Room!
p.s. If you are hungry, the hot dog stand outside of the palace has great hot dogs on the best rolls, ever!
I liked the size of the palace; it's huge! It's blue too! I was told that it was not origninally so, but Catherine wanted it to match the color of her eyes! Inside it is gold and glamour. Well worth the look. You can rent the ballroom to give a party! Elton John played there!
I suggest going early because later the lines grow long. Groups that pay extra get to go first and that can slow you down.
Excellent gift shops. Free and clean WC's. You will appreciate that!
Of all St. Petersburg's attractions, the country estate of Peterhof is perhaps the place that inspires the greatest pride among
the city's population. Extravagant and bombastic in parts, elegant and relaxed in others, Peterhof's palace and grounds are a ...
During the first part of the 19th Century, 11,000 serfs drove 25,000 wooden planks into the ground creating the foundation
for what would become Isaakievskiy Sobor (Saint Isaac's Cathedral). More than 100 kilos of pure gold were used to ...
This church is an impressive sight when seen from Nevskii Prospekt jutting out onto Kanal Griboedova. It has numerous stunning
cupolas in the "Russian" manner, some of which are multi colored or constructed like from geometric patterns. It is ...
