Anichkovskii Most (Anichkov Bridge)
Description
This bridge is a three-bay stone structure 54.6 meters long and 37.9 meters wide crossing the Fontanka river at Nevskii Prospekt. It was built in 1715 and marked the entrance to the city and for a long time served as a sentry gate. Originally it was a wooden drawbridge but was replaced by a stone turreted version between 1785 and 1788. On the bridge's piers there are four sculptures collectively known as, "Man's Taming of the Horse."
