St Petersburg is full of these places - antiques stores containing a jumble of the usual mediocre paintings of Palace Square on a rainy day, or autumn in the winter gardens...this one is right next to Ploshchad' Vosstaniia metro, so it's reasonably accessible if not exactly at the tourist heart of the city centre. They're used to tourist trade here, although staff speak only a limited amount of English. The most interesting items on show are a good collection of model ships and mounted antique firearms. For sheer extravagance however, nothing beats the likes of an ivory and marble chess set; complete with painted military figures.
