Warsaw Technical University was established in 1825 by Stanislaus Augustus as the Polytechnic School. Today it is one of the two most prestigious universities in Warsaw, with a very high academic reputation and fierce competition to secure a place. The main building was erected between 1899 and 1900 and incorporates both Renaissance and classical elements. The most stunning feature is its internal courtyard which is surrounded by cloisters, with arcades supported by pillars and covered with a glass roof.
