Description
The monastery and church of the Reformaci (Reformed Franciscans) is one of the chief attractions of Kraków's Old Town. From 1667 to 1841, nearly 300 friars and 730 laymen were buried and mummified in the vast crypts of the church. The monks were laid to rest on the bare floor, with a block of wood replacing a pillow and with their feet covered in sand. Their faces didn't change much from the day of their death. The bodies were able to be mummified as a result of the crypt's specific microclimate.
