Description
Molen van Sloten (The Sloten Windmill) dates from 1947 and pumps the water from the wetlands of Amsterdam-West into the canals. This is done with a very big windmill wheel. On the third level of the mill you can watch a sequence about Rembrandt's life and the inspiration for his paintings. Rembrandt was the son of a windmill keeper, and you can see a wax statue of his mother here. If you climb the steep wooden stairs, you'll see the wheel running, hear the wind and feel like a mill keeper for a moment.
