Albert Cuyp Markt
The Albert Cuyp, situated near the famous former Heineken brewery, is Amsterdam's largest and busiest daily market. From Monday to Saturday it is packed with local shoppers and tourists. You can buy anything here, from fresh fish and fruit, to fabric and footwear. Of course, you'll have to try the delicious traditional Dutch herring with onions and pickles. You can also find many exotic foods and herbs at this market, stocked by and for the non-Dutch Amsterdam community. In general, the prices are reasonable, but bargain your way to get your money's worth. By visiting this market you'll get a taste of the authentic multicultural side of Amsterdam.
This is a great marketplace with vendors that sell a little bit of everything. Foods, spices, fresh fruit & veggies, antiques, fabric, clothes, shoes, toys, used books & CD's, etc. It's a great place to hunt for bargains or haggle over this and that. Keep an eye on the fruit/veggie vendors. It's not dutch tradition that you pick out your own, the vendor will do that, but watch to make sure they don't slip a few rotten fruits/veggies in the bag. Don't be offended too much if they do, they do it to the locals just as much as tourists.
