Slegte (De), Amsterdam

De Slegte, situated in the city's busiest shopping street, is one of the largest bookshops in Amsterdam. It offers an enormous amount of literature, spanning various languages and also including old maps and prints. It's not all that cosy as such, but the shop is very well-suited to bargain hunting, as they offer a good mix of the latest publishers' surplus stock, a huge selection of second-hand books (of which many have antiquarian value), and school and academic books.
