In de Wildeman
The best beer cafe in Amsterdam? Quite likely. This bar is housed in an old distillery from 1690 just off the Nieuwezijds Kolk. The clientele consists of beer lovers who come from all over the world. Roughly 18 draught beers are available at any given time, along with around 150 bottled beers. Of course, the beers are changed regularly to avoid boredom and there are special themed weeks in which certain beers are celebrated for their contribution to the beer-drinking community.
I was in this pub on 1/17/09, and I was really impressed with the friendliness of the people, all locals. There was an extensive list of beers to try, and when I struck up a conversation with a couple of the people I was invited to try some of the beers that I had never had. I truly enjoyed myself at In de Wildeman, but if you want to sit for a meal you better get there before 3pm, on weekends, as it does get alittle crowded. I highly recommend dropping into In de Wildeman during your visit to Amsterdam!
We visited the bar - In de Wildeman during our recent stay in Amsterdam as we had read the reviews on the excellent selections of draft beers available.
Whilst we would certainly agree totally with the vast choice of beer we would have to say we could not recommend this bar in view of the unfriendly staff and the fact that we were charged three different prices for the same round of drinks. On the third visit we were charged four euros higher than before and on questioning the head barman he denied the difference in price charges. We would have to say this is the first time in all our visits to Amsterdam that we felt totally ripped off.
