Beautiful location. Poor food.

The view from the Belhamel is possibly the best in Amsterdam. The interior is art deco from the ceiling down to the wainscoating and emanates a warm, rich atmosphere. Below that it is like a Dutch eetcafe, with small wooden tables, plain kitchen chairs, no tabelcloth. The prices are for the upper part. The food doesn't deliver against what the menu promises: yellow beets are red. My companion who is Jewish didn't want pancetta with the Belhamel salad. There was not even a possibility to substitute pork for something else. The cork of the Pinot Gris broke off and was yet poured. When we evaluated the wine and determined it was off, the waiter huffed that this was what a Pinot Gris tastes like.
