Description

For the gourmet whose wallet matches his appetite, Christophe is one of the few restaurants in Amsterdam with a Michelin star. You will find a quiet setting of dark wood and thick carpets; an excellent choice for a romantic evening. Owner Christophe Royer makes himself available to discuss the menu. The restaurant was awarded the Michelin star for its inspired cooking, adding innovation to Mediterranean staples like basil, olive oil and saffron to create temptations like White Asparagus with oysters, and Roasted Rabbit. Private dining is available.

Preserved rabbit - a real treat!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/7/07
Our visit was a wonderful experience. Although both the venue and the service were a little formal the food was sublime and the overall experience was one to be treasured. The preserved rabbit would not have been have been my choice from a carte, but that is the major benefit of a set menu. It was one of the most wonderful things I have ever eaten. Similarly with the salmon, bacon and onions. What could have been a disaster was a triumph - wonderfully balanced and seasoned. The lamb was probably the least sensational course, but still very good. The fireworks returned with the dessert. Very simple, but beautifully flavoured ingredients beautifully presented. The wine list is comprehensive and expensive though we managed to find an acceptable Quincy which didn't break the bank. Thanks for a memorable meal!

An off night?
By Kimberly, 10/17/06
Went for an anniversary dinner. Expectations were high, but we very disappointed in the food and particularly the service. Sat for nearly an hour waiting for dessert, with empty wine and water glasses and nary a waiter to be had. Food was not that great either. Perhaps it was an off night.

A beautiful evening
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/7/05
Chosen as a place to celebrate our wedding anniversary Christophe did not disappoint. An Amouse bouche of Sea bass on a fennell puree was delightful and set the tone and standard. Of course we shared each others dishes and my wifes starter of Bruschetta with red mullet truly tasted of the sea. My terrine of foie gras was also faultless. For main courses we both went with items which were additional to the printed menua, brochette of perfectly pink lamb on a base of rissotto for my wife and a meltingly tender fillet of beef for me prepared with anchovy and with delicious spinach. While I decided to forego dessert chef presented us a slice of warm citron cake served with fig. My wife ordered and did manage to finish her Amandine of apricots with rosemary and sorbet of buttermilk. Curiosity forced me to try the buttermilk sorbet and I found it excellent. One small complaint was that the red wine, a Madiran, had not been properly chambre'd and as a result on first taste was quite sharp, once we mentioned this it was decanted for us and as it warmed it improved immensely. We could certainly have had a very good meal for less than we paid at Christophe but you get what you pay for and I consider our meal as excellent value. I will certainly go back again when we return to Amsterdam
