This Grand Cafe on the Spui is a real landmark. Always busy and very trendy. The kitchen has quite an international feel to it and while it can be a bit pricey, the food is good quality. A decent selection of wines and beers are on offer. A favourite of the dreaded Young Urban Professional, you might think this isn't for you but you'd be wrong. Luxembourg is a great cafe, the lovely conservatory makes for a great place to hang out and the overall style of the interior is great. It can get very busy, but it's so central you really don't have an excuse not to pop in.

The rudest staff I have EVER met
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/15/09
Having just moved to Amsterdam I had my first meeting with some expats in Cafe Luxembourg. The owner obviusly did not want 15 people coming into his pub (which was half empty) and started telling us to "F+ck off" and gesturing to us with one finger. I have never been so offended in my life and embarassed that this was meant to be one of the nicer cafes in Amsterdam. He then proceeded to make racist insults (perhaps he has something against the Americans/Irish/Scottish nationalities who were there!!) I urge you not to go!

What a joke!!!!

The Cafe Luxembourg is the epitome of a tourist trap-but worse. I don't mind being gouged a bit when on holiday, but the prices at this eatery give new meaning to the term "ripped off." After rambling down the Spui for a while I came upon this restaurant and remembered it as having a great burger. In I go and order a cheeseburger which comes with a few steak fries and a bit of coleslaw-nothing special I think as the waitress presents it to me. Ok burger but nothing special to have warranted some of the raves I read about on this site. I get the bill and here is what I paid: 2 Heineken drafts= 5.4euros 1 burger = 15.75euros cheese(for the burger) = 1.00euro total +22.15euros 22.15euro times $1.46=$32.33 not including tip This, in my opinion is the ultimate rip-off of a tourist. Avoid this place like the plague.

The best burger & fries ever!!! Seriously. As a former burger flipper, I do not eat them often, this, however is simply the best. Yummy.

Very good
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/06/06
I ate at this cafe numerous times throughout my several month stay in the city. Food is very very good. The bar is also very nice. I remember leather chairs, dark wood, fire place, very good service, and excellent food.
