Aptly named for its dishes, Garlic Queen is a unique little restaurant located in the heart of Amsterdam. The staff has managed to create starters, main dishes - even desserts - all dreamed up using (you guessed it) garlic! Panic not, the staff can also prepare most of the meals without it upon request. Guests having dinner at the Garlic Queen can count on a terrific meal, but it is advisable to book a table in advance as it is certainly well frequented. Examples of dishes include Gambas (big shrimps), Corn Chicken and Garlic Ice-Cream! As well as the standard menu, Garlic Queen offers daily specials.
Place is freindly - Reservations a must - Halibut carpaccio was excellent - Garlic soup was excellent - Main courses were ok/good and a little overpriced - ambiance is upscale yet a little kitchy - Overall review is if you like Garlic give it a try , is it great? No , would I go back? No , More like a decent place that's a little expensive
The Garlic Queen is a nice place to have a meal. We went in late November of 2003. I remember the garlic soup and roasted garlic being very tasty! A good selection of food and the service was respectable. Don't forget...folks smoke in between courses in European restaurants...be prepared to inhale some smoke other than what is coming from the kitchen. Still an enjoyable evening!
