Description

Restaurant November is a well-known restaurant on the sparkling Spui, in the heart of Amsterdam. You'll find lots of Dutch as well as international cafes and restaurants in this small area. The menu features mainly small snacks - Spanish tapas and salads - but you can also order a complete dinner. The food is high quality and is all made with fresh ingredients. Dishes have a distinctive French/Mediterranean quality. This place can be described as half restaurant, half cafe. The interior is characterised by wooden tables, lots of mirrors and plants and a very high ceiling. This is a popular spot amongst students.

The worst restaurant I have ever experienced
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/28/09
I went to November with a group of girlfriends to celebrate a friend's wedding. It was the most awful experience. The food was half warm, half cold and while potentially innovative actually just ended up being bad. The worst part though, is as a large group (10 of us) we weren't allowed to pay by more than 4 debit / credit cards. We disputed this as we hadn't been told beforehand. At this point the experience really declined. We had all our cards put out to pay, the owner took these away from us and told us to pay by one card or he would not give them back. The male owner then hit one of my friends as she tried to remove her card. He raised his hand and slammed it on hers, causing a lot of pain. They then decided to put the chef on the door to block us leaving! At no point during any of this had we tried to leave or even say we wouldn't pay! The owner would not accept the cards as he said the credit card company charged him for them, we offered to pay the charges but he still said no! This was a 500 Euro bill and we were happy to add the charges added by the credit /debit card companies. So in summary, at no point did we dispute the bill, we wanted to pay. we offered to add the additional card charges to our bill and pay them but the owner still said no. I have never experienced something so petty, offensive or violent towards a group who were simply trying to pay their bill. Do not go to this restaurant it was awful.

Best Value for Quality
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/8/07
The husband and wife team go out of their way to ensure you and your guests have pleasant dining experience. The food is solid, creative and high quality fare. For me, it is the best value for money that I have found in Amsterdam. The wine list is unglamourous but, again, excellent value for money and there are some interesting and solid choices. It is now my regular stopping place for evening meals.

Great Experience!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/24/05
I had been in Toulouse for a conference and found flights through Amsterdam with long layovers. Since I had never been to Amsterdam, I chose the flight with the longest layover in that city. I took the canal cruise and got off to find a restaurant in the vicinity of November Restaurant. It was quite early in the evening, but I was starving. I was kind of looking for the authentic Dutch dining experience, but the menus I read did not appeal to me. November looked so inviting and cozy, and no one was dining there yet. Both food and wine menus were posted. I recognized some of the wines, and the food looked so good. I was seated in the window, so I had a view of this new city I was exploring. I wanted everything on the menu. I don't recall what I ate, but I ordered an appetizer, a salad, and an entree. Everything was delicious. I was there during the same week as the other reviewer. The restaurant was celebrating -- a one-year anniversary or a re-opening, and I did get something free -- perhaps it was coffee. I am planning to relive my whole adventure this November -- this time for pleasure, not business, and I look forward to bringing my husband and friends to November.

We stopped by here on a tour once.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/9/07
I thought that the food was good. There was a variety of foods served to us and the service was acceptable. The service could have been a bit more friendly. The atmosphere is noisy and crowded.

Best birthday!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/26/05
Hello We were visiting in Amsterdam in june with my two friends. We were driving by bicycles and noticed an inviting terrace. Stoped for beer and lovely waitress served us and we asked to see the menus. Decided to take a table and have proper birthday dinner. Excellent food and atmosphere. Service little slow because she was working alone and the place was full. Take it easy, nowdays we are too much in a hurry.

GREAT! (Scottish accent!)
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/10/08
We were very grateful to be found a table in a very busy restaurant on Hogmanay. On arrival, we were greeted warmly by the owner and shown to our table, served by courteous staff and enjoyed a delightful meal both in presentation and quality. The experience was so enjoyable, we booked the following evening and received the highest standard of service. Therefore,we would certainly recommend 'November' and wish all, the best for 2008!

On our first night in Amsterdam we stumbled on this gem. We found it completely by chance as it was getting later for dining and hunger made the choice. Wow we sat up and took notice pretty quick Nice menu , good attentive service, nice ambience.Visited Tuesday 16 October and again Friday 19th (which was exceptional.) Nice area, easy to find. Do not miss !!

Royal treatment
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/25/06
We were treated like royalty. The owner himself waited on us and made sure everything was just perfect. The food is well-prepared, well-presented, and delicious. The staff was hospitable, smiling, and most pleasant. We would recommend November without hesitation. It is a modest, nicely appointed, well-run oasis in the busy city of Amsterdam.
