This fine dining establishment used to be a plain trattoria in the city centre, but a few years ago the establishment was completely renovated. It has now become one of the best known and most popular dining choices in Venice. The Black Squid Risotto is mouthwatering, as is the Bass in Balsamic Vinegar and Tunny Fish with Rosemary. Try something from the high quality wine list. A sumptuous dessert is the perfect end to a meal here. The service is impeccable.
The food was terrific, the service fine, if a little forced, the room is lovely (restrooms too) but the bill blew me away. I just don't get it. For the price of lunch for three people, we could eat for a week in local osterias with comparable food. Save this place for a "special occasion" when you really want to splurge - and you don't have to take a water taxi for goodness sakes. Just get off the vaportto at San Toma.
Had soft shell crabs that were incredible, but everything was good. Even wound up purchasing the roll basket which was a Seguso exclusive for the restaurant and priced quite a bit under similar pieces in San Marco. It was truly a memorable evening!
Only negative was an exhorbitant water taxi from San Marco.
Over years, we have been to the place many times and it has been a down hill experience recent years. Our most recent dinner made up our mind that it would be our last one. And for the price it charged, one could go to 3-star Il Calandre near by in Padua.
A few years back this place lived up to its reputation for one of the best in Venice. The Risotto was to die for. On a recent trip, the risotto was like uncooked Ben's rice. If it were not for a great pistachio dessert, this would have received no stars. Even so, $100 a person for a good dessert is just not worth it.
Allegedly the best restaurant in Venice, Da Fiore is a big disappointment. Yes, the wine list is great. Yes, the service is good but the rest i.e. atmosphere and food is simply average. For 257 Euros for 2 people (and we didn't even have desert!), we felt very, very let down. My main course of mixed fried fish could have easily been served in a 2 British Fish n Chip shop. There are much better restaurants in San Polo - go their instead.
When paying 200 Euro's for 2 people including wine (30E for the wine) one expects impeccable service, good ambience but most importantly great food.
Service is good but definitely not impeccable, ambience is so-so, but the biggest disappointment was the food: uninspiring in small portions and simply middle of the range!
The waiter that took our order was a great salesman describing each portion very colourfully and in detail - our disappointment was therefore even greater once we started eating the much awaited dishes.
I fail to understand why this restaurant is listed as one of the best in Venice?! I would not recommend this restaurant even if it was 50% cheaper!
The following day we visited a restaurant which was exactly half the price but was so much better than de Fiore with fantastic dishes and extremely friendly service.
The location and decor are promising, but Da Fiore is a big disappointment. The staff were clearly uninterested in us and the food was the worst we had in a week in Venice: dull and badly presented. I certainly would not have wanted bigger portions! Only the dessert (we had to see if there was a redeeming feature) showed a bit of finesse. The sommelier couldn't be bothered to listen to what we were eating before recommending a wine, and the waiters stood in a corner nattering and putting up chairs while we were still persevering with our main courses. If this restaurant can't be bothered with customers who eat late, it shouldn't take 10pm reservations. All this and an enormous bill, too!
