Piazza Navona

Description

During the Christmas season, Piazza Navona is packed with stalls selling toys, sweets and decorations for the nativity scene or Christmas tree, making it a favorite spot for children. Its unusual shape recalls the time of Domitian, who built a stadium for equestrian displays. The Fountain of the Rivers with the obelisk and the Fountain of the Moor with the God of the Sea are located in the center of the square and were both sculpted by Bernini.""

disappointing
By ,
First off it is difficult to find. Since the streets of Rome do not follow north-south, etc., and change from one name to the next at seemingly every corner, I was way off course to reach the Piazza. I was expecting this grand plaza, but all I saw was street vendors. The two fountains are ornate and wonderful but not really worth the hassle of finding the place.

If you want to fully experience this beautiful hot spot the best time is at night. this is when the Piazza Navona comes to life with the italian locals, the lights of the fountains and your favorite gellato at hand.

We ate a a great little cafe near the piazza, after wandering through all the artists stands and stuff. This area is definitely worth a visit.

Fountains, fountains everywhere
By ,
The Piazza Navona has it all. A fantastic church, grand fountains, and a wide variety of eating places with a range of Roman food to choose from. Shopping and just relaxing is the order of the day. The place comes alive at night. I can't wait to go back.

Piazza Navona

Great fountains and an awesome church. It's hard to get the church in one photo because it's the size of 3 city blocks. In the Piazza are artists and vendors selling various items - purses, artwork, t-shirts, etc. Nice cafe to eat outside or grab an espresso.

Most Beautiful Piazza in the World
By ,
No matter how many times I visit Rome, this is by far the most amazing place I have been to. It is exceptionally nice early in the morning eating a cornetto while sipping your cafe. At night the Piazza comes alive and there are gelato shops and pizzeria's close to the piazza. Also, it is in the center of Rome so it's easy to reach by bus and taxi. Nice to take a walk around the piazza on a sunday morning

Nightlife a lot of FUN!
By ,
Piazza Navona was great at night. The street performers were out in full force and the music and atmosphere was great. The fountains were lit up and flowing and the gelato just off the piazza was incredible! The restaurants right on the piazza are fairly reasonable as well and serve some great food. If you have some time to spend at night (while the Trevi fountain and Spanish Steps are full of tourists) hang out in the Piazza Navona where it is a good mix of Romans and tourists. Plenty to see and do, especially at night!

Loved the Fountain of Four Rivers
By ,
We liked the Fountain of the Four Rivers so much that we had lunch at a nearby sidewalk cafe. To our delight, a street performer picked that restaurant for his half hour entertainment. It was like having a floor show to go with our meal.

Art at it's best
By ,
If you like to look at art for sale this is the place to go. The overall experience was good because there was a near-by gelato shop and we saw some beautiful artwork. Other than that there was not a whole lot to do or look at.
