The intriguing name refers to the fact that the restaurant is right near Sergio Vertecchi's cartoleria - Sergio is also the proprietor of this restaurant. The restaurant is large, but if you are looking for an intimate corner you can settle in the 'Heart Room', in which the chairbacks are heart shaped and you eat by the flickering light of a candle. There is a good menu which allows for seasonal vegetables, thus certain dishes can only be enjoyed in autumn, such as those with mushrooms and truffles among the ingredients. Others, based on summer vegetables are available only in that season. Particular delicacies include Tonnarelli with Perorino Cheese, which are served all year round. The pizza pasta should be tried at least once. Desserts include Cappucetto Rosso (Little Red Riding Hood: pizza with ricotta and strawberries!)
Used to go there every time I was in Rome; one of the waiters whose name I forget, was there for years and added a lot to the visit with his friendly style (and free liqueurs after dinner) but he seems to have left for another job- too bad. Still, the food is great and the clientele tends to be locals, which is a good sign. Menus are in several languages (with some humourous translation errors). Great salads, good wine list and thebeef dishes& pasta are to die for!
Between the adoreable waiters and excellent food, Difronte s a "find" in Rome. I am in Rome often and I stumbled upon this quaint restaurant. Best pizza and raviola I've had in Rome. Went back twice before ending this trip. Open 24 hours too. A Winner
My favorite restaurant in Rome; been there often enough that the maitre d' and two of the waiters and I are on first-name basis. Unpretentious, simple dishes- terrific smoked salmon pasta, great steaks (try the tagliolini versions, thinly sliced strip loin with salad), great LARGE salads, good & reasonable wine list. Place is mostly locals (few tourists), though menus are in 4 languages (with some fairly comical mis-translations). They make their own gnocchi on Tuesdays (with a Gorgonzola sauce that's dynamite, though hard on the arteries!)Desserts are often not on menu, but they will make up combinations & modifications if you ask nicely. D.Y.M.
This restauramt is great, from the decor to the excellent food. The price is average for Rome, however the food is great quality unlike many other restaurants in the Eternal city. You can have a light lunch or a full on dinner, make sure you try this restaraunt, and then stroll to the Spanish Steps 5 minutes away!
