This restaurant is a local hangout for artists, politicians, journalists and businessmen. It looks onto the piazza del Popolo, and has one room, which resembles a beautiful bourgeois drawing room, and another room for smokers. You will receive a warm reception and efficient service in both. Classic dishes are made according to the Bolognese tradition, and the pièce de resistance is Bollito Misto; also excellent is the Fritto alla Bolognese with vegetables, meat, crema dolce and apple. There are fish dishes and homemade pasta recipes.
Had an absolute horrible experience at this place. When we first walked in we were going to be seated downstairs but after the realization that we were tourists we were shuffled upstairs where other foreigners and a business party were being held. Once at this location the service was terrible. The waiters just stood around and chatted with each other. Next was the food, besides the pasta bolognese, which is pretty hard to mess up, the meal was horrible. The rice was hard and the overall appearance was nothing grand especially for the price. For the price you pay there, you could go to a significantly nicer restaurant where you know you would be treated properly and food would be worth it. We would NEVER recommend this place to anyone!
This restaurant is definitely not a place for any visitor to Rome - if you are a local then fine , if you are not italian then expect to be treated poorly and with contempt. We noticed that the locals were given tremendous service , anyone who was an obvious visitor was treated as second class. It started with being given a menu completely in Italian and the waiter not making any effort to explain the dishes - examples were "thats fish" , "thats meat" and we were left to figure it out ourselves. What made this even more humiliating was the fact that they actually had a menu in English as the table next to us got so angry with the waiter he dropped one on their table! We had to ask for bread after we noticed the tables with the locals had bread brought directly when they sat down , not once did a waiter bother to pour our wine for us - we poured it ourselves all night. What made all of this worse was that there were plenty of waiters , they stood back and watched and never bothered to move. To add insult to this the food was average at best. By the end of the night it was so obvious what was going on amongst the waiters that it became comical ..... and of course the waiters could get away with this because this is one place that ADDs a 13% service charge the moment you step in the door and this was the only time we came across this in Rome .. it was not even added at the World Class "La Pergola" which highlighted to us just how bad Dal Bolognese is.
great people watching, in fact it is lots of fun to watch the wait staff wizz by us and any other tourists to offer the premium service to thier local clientele. Struggled with the menu, found the staff not very helpful unless you were a local, ordered one dish, something else came instead, granted it was good, but was this restaurant worth all the hype? not really, in fact it was slightly above average and not really worth the price.
We have been at this restaurant yesterday (i'm in rome again after a long travel i had in italy with my wife in summer). This restaurant is really good for who is looking for typical italian food (actually emilianese.. where bologna is). And that's very tasty. And very good location as well (right in piaza del popolo. This restaurant is supposed anyway to be a sort of very important place for very important people here in italy. And that's can be exciting but even a little bit unconfortable (90% of people eating were wearing jacket and tie).. outside we even had photographers waiting for someone inside. Interesting first experience with 'paparazi'.
My experience there was much more pleasurable. The servers are not only handsome they treated us like Queens. The food was wonderful. We loved the Caprese salad, the spinach pasta was awesome. Needless to say we will be back next year. Really nice people. Ciao~
This restaurant was recommended to us but it was a huge disappointment. Two items chosen from the menu were unavailable and one bottle of wine chosen from the wine list was unavailable - not impressive for a restaurant of this calibre.
Whilst the staff were friendly enough there was nothing special about them.
Would not recommend it.
