While you are in Naples, if you don't dine at the Trattoria Medina, you will have missed a great dining experience. Great food, well presented and good service and considering the above, very reasonably priced. Go there, you will be richly rewarded with a fine meal!
If want to enjoy a pizza you can dine downstairs or if you several dishes in mine dine upstairs. The antipasti is delicious; request a caprese salad (fresh mozzarella di buffala with tomatoes). With antipast they also serve hot pizza bread and it is divine. My favorite dish here is gnocchi al pomodoro, sounds simple and it is; fresh potato pasta baked in tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese. Busy nights like Friday or weekends you can enjoy local Neapolitan music, I asked them to play "Return to Sorrento" and it was incredible. If you want quick service try a night not so busy like Monday-Thursday. Overall don't expect fast service and surely don't expect what your used to in the USA. This Napoli folks... they take their dining "piano, piano; slowly, slowly"
I think me me and my friends never eat again in Trattoria Pizzeria Medina. Why? Because the waiters were not kindly, I may say bothered... We ate 4 pizzas( not so bad), and drunk 4 cola. Then we asked for the receipt but it was wrong!!! ( maybe they thought we can no read because there were 3 pizzas plus!!!) When the waiter noticed that we controlled the receipt he took it back without speaking. Eventually when we got the final receipt we learn that we have to pay 11.50 plus only for waiter's service!!! It's crazy and never happen in other restaurant!!! So beware guys!!!!
Great place! The down stairs is for customers who are strictly interested in having a pizza. The upstairs is for people who are looking for more options (but they will serve pizza upstairs if you ask). There is usually someone singing and playing a guitar and/or an accordion on the busier nights. They have a wicker basket on a string that they lower to the pizza cook---a really traditional atmosphere. The pizza they serve is, in my opinion, one of the best in Naples. You will find many locals eating here.
