Good food, but very overpriced.
$35.00 for a simple piece of Halibut.
$9.00 for a basic salad (costs go up from here).
A drink costs $10.00.
A glass of Pinot Grigio wine costs $9.00.
A glass of Sambuca costs $9.00.
Again -- good food, but unreasonable prices. It's not like they have Park Avenue (NYC) rent. They don't have much overhead at all.
That being said, Vine Street Cafe should lower their prices.
Fabulous food with lovely decor and an extensive wine list. The local fish melts in your mouth and the steak frites is my absolute favorite! Make sure to leave room for desserts topped with homemade ice cream. Try the profiteroles, pineapple tart tatin or chocolate ganache.
The wonderful wine list and delicious deserts where dwarfed by the flavorful entrees. I had the Halibut and my wife had the scallops. Both dishes where unbelievably tasty. Can't wait to go back to Shelter Island so I can dine here again soon.
Only issue was the steak was not cooked as order by one of my guests. He asked for the steak to be med-rare (actually originally asked for it med-well, but the server convinced him to go for mid-rare), and the steak was served blood-red / purple. When brought to the attention of the server, he gave us a free drink and free desert, but still charged us for the meal.
