Overlooking the grand canal, in one of Milan's more traditional areas, you find this corner of Tuscany, managed with the type of experience that spans several generations. The restaurant is decorated in rustic style, which confers it simple elegance. It is not particularly large, with seating for 90 but the atmosphere is quite comfortable and familiar. The restaurant boasts Brunello and Nobile Rosso, wines from Montalcino; there is also a selection of good white wines. The menu offers Tuscan specialities, more specifically from Siena: game and other meats.
Found this gem quite by accident and enjoyed on of the finest eating experiences of my life. The decor is welcoming and formal with a mixture of large tables, dimmed lights and candlelabras throught the wine walled main diningroom. We chose the sample 5 course meal complemented by the course matching sample wine list. It was exquisite. We look forward to returning to Milan just to eat at Montalcino. The wine list is superb.
