Il Latini

Description

This historical restaurant is a favourite with both Florentines and visitors alike. Despite the fact that the restaurant is always fairly busy, the service is excellent. If you have not booked in advance and are compelled to wait outside in the street - do not despair, you will be brought a snack to make your wait more pleasurable. The Florentine steak is without comparison, made from the choicest cuts of meat. There is also the 'ribollita' and the spelt soup, as well as many other Florentine specialities - all at reasonable prices.

The Best!
By ,
Absolutely the best food we had throughout our whole trip in Italy! Such a great range of foods, and the best part is you get to sample all they have to offer for the night. It is family style, and has a great atmosphere! The waiters are great, and speak great english also. Must have a reservation, as they are absoulutely booked for the night. We ended up eating dinner with a famous baseball player, and a couple of men from the MLB association. Just an absoulute great experience! You definately wont be disappointed!

A Truly Unique & Great Dining Experience!
By ,
My wife and I have gone back to Il Latini every time we have been in Italy. Our first experience was 1991, and we have returned many times. All of the advice in other listings are true such as make a reservation, go early, enjoy the experience of dining with strangers, don't order from the menu & let the help plan your meal. We took our daughter to Il Latini for dinner on her 21st birthday and it was a night to remember. A private birthday party could not have been more fun. The food is consistently wonderful, and the dining experience is unbelievable. The bigger your group the better the experience, but if you don't go with a group you will soon be part of one when you arrive.

Mama Mia It's Wonderful!!!
By ,
We had wonderful means in Rome, Florence & Vencie, but this was the most outstanding meal we had. The food was divine, the service excellent and ambiance just perfect. We were served every course and wine, and our bill for three was about 95Euros. I hope someday to return. Reservations for lunch or dinner are an absolute must!!!

We can't wait to return!!
By ,
We spent 5 weeks in Italy in 2003. While in Florence we were advised to go to "il Latini". We did and the 5 of us were blown away. Like typical dumb tourists we thought that we could just show up and have an authentic italian meal. When we arrived we were advised that we needed reservations. I guess the server felt sorry for us so after a few minutes he found us a table. Our servers were very informative, attentive and the food just flowed out of the kitchen once the orders were placed. Delicious large portions, perfectly prepared and presented and at bargin prices. After 3 hours of eating, drinking and making new Italian friends they gave us each a bottle of their private label wine and off we went. We havn't stopped talking about it since we left. On November 17th 8 of us are going back to "feast" at il Latini's. This time we made reservations. Anyone that goes anywhere near Florence and doesn't go to il Latini's might as well go to Mc Donald's.

it's that good!
By ,
I just finished 2 weeks eating my way through Italy and Il Latini definitely ranks as the #1 and #2 meals of the trip. Yes, I went there twice in my three days in Florence. While that might sound a littel strange, there were two other tables there on my second night that were also there on my first night. The food is traditional Tuscan cuisine, and is unbeatable. Definitely try the ribollita, it's wonderful. I was a little unsure when the local I did not know, sitting next to me, (at my table) recommended it, afterall it's just vegetable soup. Wrong, it is soo much more, a treat! All the pasta dishes are terrific and the meats are fantastic. Defnitely try the beef, fillet, and/or the lamb. Don't waste your money on the wine list, the red wine on the table is just fine. Go with the prix Fixe and don't ask for a menu. When the waiter asks if you want Proscuito and Melon, say, "yes" and let the fun begin. The Prix Fixe price is 40 Euros a person these days, but it was still one of the least expensive meals I had in Italy. If you are lucky enough to sit near Joseph Amalo (a local regular) you will be in for an extra special treat.

First Timer but will return
By ,
We visit Il Latine last fall for the first time after receiving several reports and recomendations going there. The food was absolutely outstanding as was the service. The Staff make you feel very welcome and comfortable. I will say though that making reservations was a joke. I had the Hotel make reservations for us and I checked them personally later. When we got to the Il Latini we were forced to just get in line and fight for position with all the locals that cut in front. The reservations really didn't mean anything. Besides that I would return in a second and would advise it to anyone visiting florence...

Absolutely delightful!
By ,
We met great people waiting in line. (Couldn't call ahead for reservations because no one answering phone in the afternoon, so try earlier.) The service was great. Really, these guys were sweethearts. Food was the best we ate in Italy and we ate A LOT of places. It was noisy, but so much fun, like a giant family reunion dinner. Our party of 6 all loved this place. The antipasto was the best and we ordered from the menu and had plenty of wine for 115 Euros.

Not to be missed!
By ,
We've already been twice in two weeks to this restaurant. A unique and fantastic Florentine experience. Communal tables, joyous environment, friendly and very attentive staff, excellent diverse menu of traditional Tuscan fare, best veal and best lamb we've had in Florence, all supervised personally by Mr. Latini who verifies that all are content. This is the place to bring your friends to when in Florence.

What a party
By ,
This restaurant managed to allow our family of 16 to use the wine cave in the basement for an impromptu dinner. The wait staff quickly suggested a tasting menu and wines so that we cold enjoy the company of each other without the worry of trying to determine what we should order. I imagine it also helped the kitchen to manage not only our meal but the rest of the guests in the restaurant. Kudos to all the Latini family. You made a wonderful night
