Il Latini

Description

This historical restaurant is a favourite with both Florentines and visitors alike. Despite the fact that the restaurant is always fairly busy, the service is excellent. If you have not booked in advance and are compelled to wait outside in the street - do not despair, you will be brought a snack to make your wait more pleasurable. The Florentine steak is without comparison, made from the choicest cuts of meat. There is also the 'ribollita' and the spelt soup, as well as many other Florentine specialities - all at reasonable prices.

Great Food! Great Value! Don't Miss It
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/21/07
My wife and I were there in August 2001. We were told by friends back in Rochester N.Y. to go to this place if we wanted a great food at unbelievable prices. We had a hard time finding it, but it was worth the walk. We didn't have to wait long at all, I guess they noticed our tongues hanging out. We both had the fillet mignon, we had 2 appetizers, pasta, salad, all the bread & water we wanted, and each of us were given 2 desserts. Plus a free bottle of wine when we left. I figured boy did they see a couple of easy targets. But when the bill came I thought they made a mistake. It was only $49.00 + the tip. You couldn't get such a quality meal that well prepared, that level of service, for twice that much in any prime beef house in the U.S. My brother, and I are going back to Italy next May 2008. Were heading to Florence and on the top of our list is another meal at LL Latini. Wouldn't miss it for nothing!! See you there!

The Best Meal in Europe
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/24/07
We hopped into the restaurant from our cruise ship on a day trip in Florence. Our family (group of 7) had lunch at the restaurant and the only regret of the restaurant is that we weren't there for the crowds at dinner! Coming from a family of chefs, this was one of the top three meals I have ever eaten in my entire life. Never have I eaten beans so perfectly cooked or melon so succulent. You definitely want to go with a group, so pretty much every dish cooked is served somewhere on your table. Yeah, even at lunch it is loud, and yeah you may have to fight for a table at dinner, but isn't that the experiences that make the meal memorable, not just the food. Relax, go with friends, expect a wild time, and drink plenty of wine. If you don't like this meal, then you just simple don't know good food if it hit you in the face and if by chance you feel the restaurant kitchen is having an off night, go back. A European trip is already expensive, whats another 40 euro.

Fun Restaurant
By Kyle, 7/23/07
Fantastic food. Great ambiance. The more people the better. This is a restaurant not to miss coming, and as a student in Florence for 5 months I hope that you understand that this is a destination, and not merely a restaurant.

with your clothes on...
By Leonard Louis, 7/22/07
This one of the most fun experiences, dining or otherwise, that I've had with my clothes on. My wife and I were in line with many others and were served wine and cheese by a real Italian Momma. We made friends with the people in front of and behinds us. This was good because you are seated at communal tables and might be eating with those people. Forget the menu! They serve you what they are serving.(and plenty of it.) We sent some friends here recently. They said it was the highlight of their entire trip. Don't miss it.

A meat lovers feast
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/1/07
My three friends and I dined here on the Sunday evening of our weekend break in Florence. More rustic than our choice on Sat eve, but a welcome change offering a very 'local' florentine dining experience. The ambience is not romantic, the lighting is a little unforgiving, but this is all forgotten within minutes as our attention is diverted by the hustle and bustle of the busy restaurant which is a pleasure to be part of. The restaurant was bursting with people, with queues outside (happy that we booked ahead). This had no effect on the service which was brisk - the waitors were helpful and very friendly. Definately a meat lovers restaurant - lots of veal, steak and lamb on the menu. The meat was simply cooked, but cooked to perfection. We all agreed our meals were delicious - fabulous portions of meat, which melted in your mouth. The wine was good too, and our complimentary after dinner tipple was also greatly received. A mouth watering dining experience, with great atmostphere, friendly staff, where you're not pushed to finish your meal quickly (despite how busy the restaurant is). A definate recommend!

The Bum's Rush
By senior citizen, 5/19/07
Upon the enthusiastic review of The Food Channel's Rachel Ray, we went to Il Latini for dinner and stood outside waiting for the restaurant to open. The four of us anticipated a great Italian meal, but were not prepared for prosciutto that had dried onto the plate, and everything else one would expect with that start to a meal. The service was rushed, waiters tried to remove half eaten dishes and brought the next course almost just after we started the previous course. The meal continued like that, not very good quality and hurried. We were feeling the dinner was out of control and we were uncomfortable when the maitre d' and the waiter brought champagne glasses and prosecco (not ordered) not to make us feel better, but to charge more for the dinners. Never, never, would I go back, even on our sixth trip coming up next May !!

Crowdy, not expensive
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/19/07
We liked it. The place is crowdy, 20-40 people waiting outside to get a table. Probably because of price - we paid 85 plus tip for full 4 course dinner with home wine. Do make reservation. One can be seated at the table with strangers which can be nice experience. The choice of dishes was not great - 3 of each course. Beware of huge meat dishes. Better take one to share.

what a total disappointment!
By Oceanida, 3/17/07
I visited Florence with my boyfriend this Christmas and I was determined to trace and try this restaurant after having read all these raving reviews. Are you people kidding? What a disappointment it was! The place was noisy, the food was not good (it was microwaved!) and overpriced. The restaurant was crammed with tourists and not a single Italian -it's a common tourist trap.

Loved it
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/7/06
Worth the wait - met some fun people outside, while sipping complimentary wine & eating chunks of cheese. The beef was the best meal we had during our entire European trip!
