This place was once popular with the porters from the Santa Maria Novella railway station, but is now a place to go when you want to eat some traditional food. You should start with the classic chicken liver crostini and the tasty croquettes, then move on to the tomato pappa, the ribollita (a grain soup), or the pappardelle with rabbit sauce. Obviously you can't leave without trying the steak alla fiorentina cooked over charcoal. You can accompany all this with a good Chianti della Rufina. It has two dining rooms and can seat 50 people.
We stumbled on this restaurant near our hotel and went back every other night once we realized it was so much better than any other place we ate. It is about a block from the train station. We kept wanting to try other places, but didn't do as well. We shared the ravioli with tomato sause for an apetizer/pasta course. We noticed many people start with the spinach risotto which can also be shared by two. Wine: Briolo. Very warm welcoming service. It seems front room is for tourists and back room is for locals who seem to come frequently. We would prefer not to have this distinction. We ate once in the back room and there was much more local color. A real local family place.
We love the Trattoria Due G restaurant. We travel to Florence often and find ourselves only eating at this restaurant. The food is to die for and the spinach risoto heaven. A couple years ago my two cousins and their wives joined us on our trip to Europe. On one of our dinners at the restaurant I looked up and noticed there were no customers left. I asked the owner what time did he close and he said "we closed an hour ago"!!! I started to apologize and he said no problem, we are happy to have you. When we all got up to leave, the owner, his wife, the cooks, waiters, busboys all line up and kissed each one of us and thanked us for coming... NOW THATS ITALIAN....
