Boluisce Seafood Restaurant

Description

Situated right on the threshold of Irish-speaking Connemara, Boluisce is located in the heart of the small fishing village of Spiddal. This family-run restaurant specialises in seafood. The catch arrives at Spiddal pier and other local fishing wharfs and is carried straight to the restaurant. Boluisce also prides itself on serving tempting meat, pasta, curry and vegetarian dishes. Downstairs has a cosy pub-like atmosphere while upstairs is somewhat more elegant, offering a superb á-la-carte menu. A meal at Boluisce is an excellent way to end a day's touring in Connemara.

Never again!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/13/11
After having a few disappointing experiences with this restaurant in the past, we decided to give it another chance. I am afraid it continues with poor standard of service and poor quality food which was definately not fresh and appeared to be re-heated. When I raised my concern with the manager I encountered an indifferent attitude to my complaint. We will never be back.

Cannot wait to go back - love the Cranberry gravy
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/4/11
Excellent food , welcoming staff and great value for money - you would be hard pushed to get the equivalent in Dublin - have tried and failed. Great place to call into on a drive along the coast road to Connemara or to pop out to for a Sunday lunch - Absolutely loved the Cranberry gravy - delicious! The extensive menu has improved as it caters for a spectrum of diners - seafood and meatlovers will enjoy this menu

What a quaint treat.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/7/10
It has a cozy feeling giving a true Irish feel. Very local and the food was wonderful. They catered to my dietary needs and willing to give receipe for a favorite dish. Might be considered small but they accommodated a party of six.

I enjoyed it
By Edward, 3/28/10
Was there last week. Open fire, irish speaking patrons and staff, no problem getting a seat. Is a bit expensive. Went off the set menu - fish cakes and steak with dessert. Think my food was about 40Euros. Would go back again. Can't compare it with the 90's but seemed okay for a once off.

Old Boluisce Vs New Boluisce
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/11/09
Back in the 90s this establsihment won seafood bar of the year...in the country. since it changed hands circa 1993 it has gone vastly downhill. Up until 93 it was owned and run by the same family for 20 years and became an icon in its own right....wouldn't touch it now though!!!

Very disappointing experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/31/08
The sign swinging outside says 'locally sourced fresh fish', yet I ordered a prawn open sandwich and the prawns were barely defrosted as well as being totally tasteless they were covered with a watery white sauce. When I drew attention to the fact that the prawns were frozen, the waitress just shrugged her shoulders. I had visited this restaurant many times in the early 90's and whether it's a change of ownership or just basic unprofessionalism I'm not sure but I won't be going back there again. Such a pity. It was a wonderful restaurant once upon a time. Órla, Oranmore
