O'Grady's Seafood Restaurant

Description

Located on Clifden's busy Market Street, this restaurant has long attracted visitors to enjoy its excellent seafood. O'Grady's has a twin restaurant, Kirwan's Lane in Galway city, and lately they have given their menu a makeover to keep in line with the elegant menu at Kirwan's. However, none of the former quality has been lost during this makeover. Guests return for dishes such as cumin spiced monkfish with coriander and citrus couscous and crispy aubergine and caramelised duck confit.

Disappointing
By Dr., 7/21/08
I was looking forward to my visit to this restaurant but unfortunately it did not live up to expectations. The ambience was not what I was expecting, the surroundings were quite rural and there was an effluent smell around the location. Let's say it didn't start off on the right note. Most of the staff appeared quite pleasant and saw us to our table, service was more than adequate although at one stage we waited quite a while for drinks. The meal itself was a let down, I went for the Duck leg, which I found a little on the dry/burned side. My wife went for oysters, which she though were a little tasteless. On to the main course, I thought that the roast duckling might be an improvement on the starter, again I was proved wrong. The portion was a little on the small side and the red wine gravy only served to try mask the taste. It was more like a barbeque than a roast. My wife plumped for the smoked salmon and crab salad. The crab was good but she didn't like the salmon although this was more down to her own tastes than the dish itself. We decided to avoid the desserts menu. Best part of the meal was the coffee afterwards...not often I've had to say that it's my favourite part but I was glad this visit was coming to an end. I don't think that it's worth the cab fare when there is plenty of other good places to eat in within Galway city.
