Thirsty Scholar (The), Cork

Though the walls of the Thirsty Scholar don't necessarily resonate with the sound of philosophical and scientific debate, it's not a bad old spot for chat with a friend or stranger. The unofficial watering hole of University College Cork offers a relaxed, wood-panelled and open-fired atmosphere, a good pint, and occasional live music. The front bar is just as cozy as can be, and makes a delightful spot to sip a pint of an afternoon, or something stronger. The back bar is something akin to an Anglo-Saxon drinking hall, and is invaded nightly by swarms of revelling students. A popular spot, and for good reason.
