Every time I am in Budapest, I make it a point to visit this area.

Heros Sqare is a place to go if you want a lot of history regarding Hungary. All major kings have statues with detailed likenesses in an open plaza environment.
Another major benefit is the Fine Arts museums (2) that flank both edges of the plaza and entrance fees are nominal to view all of the great Eurpoean masters of all periods.
A stroll through the city park can take several hours and there are many attractions inside the castle grounds. Lunch on the lake is a must. Try the goulash soup - it iws superb. The Hngarian people are easy to get along with even thoiugh the language is IMPOSSIBLE to learn (more than a few words) but it really isn't needed much. Most displays have English translations. I have been here in all seasons and I recommend autumn as the best time for temperature and seeing the trees change colors.
