National Archaeological Museum, Athens

Museum is very nice. Make sure it is open, opening hours are hard to predict. According to our information it was supposed to be open till 7pm, but it closed at 3pm.

One of the Top 10 museums in the world, to be sure. Pricey due to weak dollar. When I retire, I want a job as a docent or guard here: "Don't touch the glass, please! This is not allowed! No flash, please!" What a kick. It was all I could do to not touch the glass and use my flash just to twist their tails a bit. Avoid the museum shop. Pretty typical overpriced goods.

I'm not a fan of museums—I get bored in them easily—but I loved this one. Many of the pieces of sculpture simply spoke to me. But I recommend going as early as possible after opening, while the crowds are still rather thin. That way you can contemplate the pieces in some degree of peace and quiet, which is what they deserve.

This is the museum to see for anyone interested in the origins of western culture. The building itself is beautiful and it's collection unmatched. I only had an hour and a half time for it, but could have spent most of a day there.

It's hot in here, for being a museum and all so be sure to dress accordingly. Otherwise, what more can you expect? This is a museum.

The museum looks excellent after two years of renovation!You can see all the tresures and some new collections like bronzes items.
