Description
The art of theater was born in Athens more than 2,500 years ago. So it comes as no surprise that present-day Athens is teeming with over 100 theaters. Standing out of the crowd is the National Theater near Omonia Square. Its repertoire is varied ranging from the very first theatrical plays of ancient Greece to the latest experimental works. The highlight of the theatrical season are the summer performances of ancient Greek drama held in the splendid 2,300-year old Epidaurus Theater near Athens. The Theater is housed inside a majestic neo-classical building constructed between 1895 and 1901.
