Augustinerkeller is the only really traditional beer garden left in the city centre and serves up big glasses of tasty beer. Thanks to an ancient law dating back to the days when Bavaria had a monarchy, guests are allowed to bring their own food; but there's really no need, as the traditional fare served here is good-value and tasty. The clientele is mixed, with families, students, business people, locals and tourists. The beer is reputed to be the best in Munich and costs EUR4.75 for a one-litre glass. The beer garden closes at 10.30pm.
I have eaten there 3 times and found the service average to poor. The food is good, but lacks the distinction of other beer hall food. The Paulaner had better food, better and more friendly service and equally nice ambiance.
On both my previous Munich vacations, this was my favorite beer garden. The food is varied and delicious, the beer is outstanding and the staff is friendly and welcoming. This will be my evening distraction on my next visit this summer.
I was in Munich in 2001 and 2004 and the Augustinerkeller is the best place to have a beer and enjoy the ambience of Munich. I love this place. Excellent beer and food and a warm friendly atmosphere. Don't miss this place when in Munich. I buy their beer here in America.
The service was exceptional. I experienced my first authentic German meal here and was not disappointed! Lively atmosphere, but very pleasant. The service was splendid and quite willing to help with my German!
I was touring through the gorgeous cathedrals in the city center, and came across the Augustinerkeller. What a wonderful place! The beer was tasty, it was a warm spring afternoon, and the people were very friendly. It became one of the highlights of my visit to the city.
Having dinner at Augustinerkeller launched a great visit to Munich. My bad German tipped off the waitress that my wife and I were American. She promptly sat us down with a chap from Ireland. Bratwurst mit kraut and the roast chicken dinner were excellent. Friendly staff and patrons and great beer. Stein sales are the best deal in Munich.
This family restaurant (run by the Singh family) has a typical Indian ambience without being over the top, and offers
a good variety of dishes from India's many regions: e.g. a good selection of chicken dishes for EUR9.50 12, ...
This most famous of pubs draws people from all over the globe, even at nine in the morning! Its unique
charm comes from the Bavarian music and the handful of regulars who gather at the bar. Beer and Schmankerl ...
