This most famous of pubs draws people from all over the globe, even at nine in the morning! Its unique charm comes from the Bavarian music and the handful of regulars who gather at the bar. Beer and Schmankerl (roast pork with trimmings) complete the set up. In the summertime 'real' locals make for its wonderful courtyard, while the Festsaal room hosts a Bavarian evening with music every night, costing EUR 4.50 admission. Main meals cost EUR 10-15. A litre tankard of beer costs EUR 5.70 and small mealsEUR 4.45.
This place ruined our saturday evening in Munich that we had so looked forward to. We stood for 2 minutes and waited for a table then we where squeezed in with a bunch of others in a very uncomfy place tried to change but where not allowed. The food was so dry and untasty. This is really a tourist trap and I will never ever go there again. Dont go!!!!
This is Germany as you imagine it. Great traditional food, great people, polka band, and a place known in history. Prices are fine as the food is worth it. Nice patio dining. Server was a little cold and grumpy but maybe she was at the end of a shift. I am eager to return for more brat and pretzels. Know the history before visiting.
I was in Germany in 1983 to 84,, spent quite a few weekends in Munich, and alot of hours in the Hofbrau haus,,,, Always had a smile on my face,,, might have been what we called the "HAPPY BEER"but I cant think of 1 bad experience ever there. Would love to have the chance to go there again sometime.
Sure it's touristy, but it is also authentic. It is a fun place that should not be missed when you are in Munich.
The food was surprisingly delicious, the beer is great, the service was pleasant and prompt, and the atmosphere is a hoot. Stop by their gift shop on the way out for souvenirs both tacky and tasteful. Read up on the history of the Hofbrauhaus before you go, and you will enjoy it even more.
A person's enjoyment of the Hofbruhaus is dependent on what you're looking for while in Munich. If you want the oompa bands, beermaids, and the ability to be completely understood in English, it's your kind of place. However, if you're looking for a native experience, there are better places.
The layout, despite the environment, is a positive. A diner can enjoy a beer outside as well as in quieter parts of the building.
In spite of being a tourist place, it shows and feels like a very german environment. The music, the beer and the food are all very good and not expensive. It's a place to share and enjoy. I recommend it, if you are with a group you can have a great time.
The choice here is extremely limited just one five course menu a day but don't be alarmed; the menu is
exceedingly well thought out and exquisitely prepared. The cuisine is solid and hearty rather than fine. Classic southern German ...
