Theaterkahn Dresdner Brettl, Dresden

The Theaterkahn - or theatre boat - lies moored on the River Elbe and puts on some of the best cabaret theatre in the region. Minimal state subventions mean that the theatre cannot afford to keep its own ensemble, so all shows are performed by freelance actors or guest ensembles. This, however, has hardly harmed the quality, and the Theaterkahn is known nationwide for its first-class comedies and cabarets. The programme is varied and can include everything from recitals to chanson evenings. Advance booking is recommended.
